Alger Estate - Kitchen Remodel
As part of my responsibilities at TruKitchens, I was assigned a client to measure, design, and order a new kitchen for their 1950s home. This all took place within an 8 week period. This was my first real experience with a budget, client likes / dislikes, site conditions / concerns, and ordering product. Although I was only responsible for cabinetry and design, this entered me into a whole new side of design that I had not experienced in my academic education.
Process.
This home has a historical, quaint quality to it that allows for the overall design to have aged character in the hand-crafted trim, fireplace, and mouldings. When discussing the overall look of the kitchen with the clients, they wanted something that was modernized and "cleaned up", but still fit the charm of the home. Their palette was also to remain in the warm, smoky grays and browns with hints of raw wood and color.
Final.
The finishes in the space include a hickory cabinet with a silas stain making it appear smoky with grey tones. A square frame door style with an eased bevel inside the frame is used in addition to slightly rounded edges on the doors and drawers.
