Plot - Children's Bookstore
This retail space needed to be designed out for a children's bookstore that is interactive, encourages reading, and shows children the fun in books. Taking inspiration from medieval times and industrial goods, this becomes a mysterious fantasy space with color added in upholsteries and lighting. To go along with the medieval theme, a "dragon" - made of faux leather and foam - will be watching over the bookstore and can be sighted in different locations. This will be a ruined castle that is being modernized.
Process.
Client's needs: a fun interactive store that sparks all the senses - sight in decor, touch in interactive elements, hearing in music and sounds, smell in popcorn and candy, and taste in snacks / candy.
While watching their kids play throughout the store, parent's should always have sight lines in order to see their children. Two lounge sections on either side of the store were placed, then, in order to address this issue. When a movie is in session, the store should still be accessible for customers - a two door entrance was then established so while a movie plays in one entrance the other is still open for incoming and outgoing traffic. Lastly, sight lines for employees to see every area of the store - excluding staff's quarters - is vital to a store's success in order to watch for negative activity. An elliptical cash wrap stand was built into the center of the store to then create these sight lines.

Products being sold: children's books (large and small) for ages 6 to 14 as well as small toys, dvd's, etc.
The largest design elements of this space would include the ones that bring whimsy into the bookstore to excite kids into reading and promote imagination. These include areas where it looks as if a dragon is coming through the wall, above the cash wrap stand it looks as if the dragon has once broke through and now the sky is visible (created by projectors and LED lighting built into the ceiling), and castle-like nooks for the children to cozy up in and read or have a moment of play with the other children.
